A breeze-up sale is an auction whereby potential purchasers can watch the horses being offered for auction
(referred to as 'lots') gallop or 'breeze' on a racecourse prior to the sale taking place.
This generally happens on the day before the start of the actual auction process The horses 'breeze' either on their own or in pairs, and will generally do so in catalogue order. The horse will wear a saddle cloth bearing its lot number as displayed in the catalogue, and the jockey will wear a coloured hat silk, details of which will also appear on the catalogue page of the relevant horse. All breezes are timed and filmed and can be viewed later at the sales house and often via the sales company's website, links are supplied in this website.
All are welcome at the 'breeze' and if you are considering buying a horse, it's often worth attending this with a bloodstock agent or racehorse trainer. Catalogues can be requested prior to the sale via the relevant sales house and will also be available on the day of the breeze-up and at the sale itself.
