A lively day of trade at the DBS Breeze-Up Sales saw 112 Lots sell for an average price of £24,326 with a diverse number of buyers in attendance from across Europe and North America.
Dark Angel was sold by DBS before winning the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket and his half brother topped the sale when selling for £190,000. The Chestnut colt breezed extremely well on town moor (Doncaster Racecourse) and was always expected to attract plenty of admirers, but it was Bloodstock Agent Richard O'Gorman who showed most interest in the colt before the hammer came down in favour of another Agent Peter Doyle. He will now go in to training with Richard Hannon, who will be hoping that he follows in the footsteps of the Group winners Paco Boy and Prolific, whom he purchased at Doncaster Bloodstock Sales in recent years.
Malcolm Bastard consigned a racy son of Exceed and Excel who impressed many of the work watchers and was another that proved popular when coming under the hammer. He was sold to Bryan Smart for £92,000, with Richard O'Gorman as underbidder. He will now race in the colours of Tottenham Hotspur Football Manager Harry Redknap.
"We must salute the Breeze-Up Bonus Scheme as there is no doubt that it has been a real help and focussed buyers minds at the crucial time. To have the chance of a £10,000 pay back is a real incentive and we are delighted to have been part of this innovative example of self help...
...The DBS Breeze-Up is a consistent source of real success and we are grateful to our vendors who have again supplied a catalogue of quality, ready to win two year olds. We look forward to seeing them win plenty of races, win plenty of bonuses and win at the highest level."
